What People Don't Tell You About Starting Your Own Brand in 2016: The Money Edition.


Branding. We, as humans, brand a whole lot of things: cows (yes, that was my go-to answer), clothes, and even ourselves. In fact, one of the biggest tips for bloggers to stand out is to find your niche or your own brand.


But, what if you wanted to expand that brand? Be a self-employed maven who's brand makes frequent appearances at NYFW? That's the challenging part.

My point is best described by the one, the only Roger Waters.
"Money, get away. Get a good job with good pay and you're okay. Money, it's a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash."

Did you sing it in your head, too? Waters has got a point. Money is one of the biggest motivators and inhibitors in today's world. You want to start a brand to make money, however, without money you cannot start it. 

How much money is in question? Well according to an interview on Fashionista with Ari Bloom, it can take up to 2-3 million dollars to launch a ready-to-wear brand. Bloom is apart of a strategic consultant firm that often focuses on helping young designers. "Connection's are important. Then there's luck. But, ultimately it is a very expensive proposition. It really is a rich man's game, " Bloom said. 

Luckily, one thing is a bit cheaper: marketing. Social media has changed the game for young professionals, and if you are looking to start a brand SM is a MUST. Within the last couple of years, there have been websites dedicated to young professionals starting brands. Colabination is one of these.
